Lewis Pies was established in 1936 as a small bakery employing four people and is now a large manufacturing company with 86 full time staff. The original bakery was set up in Beech Street Swansea by the late Wilfred Charles Lewis, the father of current Managing Directors Wilfred and John Lewis. The brothers formed the partnership during the late 1970s to enable them to take over the business from their father, and it remains a family run business.

After running the business for several years, the brothers analysed its market position and found that demand for their products was greater than the current supply. They decided that there was a need to expand the production capabilities, and refrigerated storage space, to cope with this. Consequently, a new bakery in Glamorgan Yard, Swansea, was leased in 1989.

Following continued expansion of the customer base throughout West Wales, and the Bristol area, the manufacturing facility was once more outgrown and, in 1996, Lewis Pies moved into the present premises in Abergelly Road. The location of these premises, with excellent M4 Motorway access, was an important consideration in their selection, giving the company a good opportunity to expand their market even further.

In 1998 they saw an opportunity to increase and enhance their product range. They acquired ‘Wendy’s Bakery’ producers of high quality bread and confectionery allowing them to offer a full range of bakery products to their customers.

In August 2002 the partners decided to restructure the business to form a Limited company and it now trades as the corporate entity Lewis Pies Ltd, which incorporates “Wendy’s Bread & Confectionery” within the business

Lewis’ Pies is focused on becoming the UK’s first choice supplier of pies and savoury products. To assist the Directors in this aim, the company offers high standards of customer service, constant monitoring of the market and assessing and planning for the future.

Historically the company has always listened to its customers in order for it to understand their needs and supply them with top quality products. This philosophy continues to be a corner stone of the company’s customer care policy.
